Hi
First of all id like to thank all the dedicated developers and troubleshooters, awesome job, thanks for caring!

Im currently installing iATKOS v7 on my system and been runing into various problems especially bios-related, but sortet the most out by trying different settings, checking readmes tutorials and forum boards.
At last im stuck with this consistant problem, and cant find any solution that helps me. But first some info:

Machine:
mobo asus P5Q3 / LGA775 / P45+ ICH10R
Intel Core 2 Quad / Q9550 2.83GHz / FSB 1333 / 2x6MB cache
ASUS geforce en9800GT / 1GB DDR3 / DVI + SUB-d + HDMI
Sata WD 500GB hdd
(iv seen posts on systems like this run vanilla kernel, also in iATKOS, though i dont know what customization setup was used)

In bios i followed the mickey guides directions for those which were available to my mobo. And tried sorting the rest out myself. in the end, i was able to boot the DVD and install.

Install customization:
Main System
Chameleon v2
Ekstra dir
AppleDecrypt
Post-install actions

Every time i succesfully installed the iATKOS dvd (burned in x4) i ended up on the "Install was succes, please reboot" screen, i press reboot and i get this kernel panic:
Image
And this always the same, always the panic, no matter the configuration.

Theres nothing wrong with the bootloaders, worked right away, have tried all 3 on fresh installs, no change on the above panic. Booting from the hdd gives:
Image

with the cpus=1, -x and -f flags seperately it hangs:
Image

with -v -f:
Image

with -v on voodoo kernel 9.5:
Image

I have tried with numerous different settings (Kernel, smbios, sata/ide drivers, dsdt) on fresh installs, all done in GUID partitioning on Mac OS extended (journaled), same problem.
Tried with cpus=1 flag, no effect..

Alt. customization:
main system
chameleon v2
ekstra dir
dsdt
dsmos decrypt
disabler
AHCI driver
Intel SATA/IDE driver
post-install actions

same kernel panic as before, just after install.
booting from hdd and it hangs on silver apple logo with load-circle.

with -v -f it gives me almost the same output as i got from the simpler install setup;
The only difference is that it dos not panic, it just stops after the lines:
"MAC Framework successfully initialized
using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster buffer headers
"
after that there is nothing untill i reboot.

-x hangs
-f hangs

It seems weird that the installation succedes and then panics. To mention the procedure step by step: 1)install is sucessful, 2) i push reboot after install when it asks for it, 3) then it hits the grey screen and hangs for a moment, 4) it panics ... it dos not reboot at any time.

I assume the x4 writespeed is suficiant since the intall is able to succed, is this correct or might it be the problem?
I wonder if this problem is VGA related?

Sorry for the bad pic quality, i cannot do any better :( i will manually write the text from -v or panics, if needed.
Im hoping someone is able to help or point me to a topic which can.
If i have i forgotten any info, please do tell.

ill keep trying.
cheers

UPDATE:
i now need to apply cpus=1 on installdisk boot or it will reboot the system.. but it no longer kernel panics after installs.. why, i dont know.

booting from hdd with -f -v:
first it tells me that
com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform (and) com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components, use only one

and after the MAC Framework is successfully initialized :
devfs_make_node: not ready for devices!

it hangs for a moment and then it panics with the
"no hpets available ... cpu(s) configured incorrectly\n"@/SourceCache/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement-76/pmThread.c:155

Backtrace shows:
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement(76.0.0)@0x55628000->0x55646fff

After hours of reading and searching, i narrowed it down and i think the problem might be DSDT related, and i have consulted the topic on the issue, but im not really sure if this is my salvation(?) :)
The DSDTSE contains a HPET fix, and i assume this might help me with the appleintelcpupowermanagement error, but i dont wanna fuck anything up here.
what about the AppleACPIPlatform, i saw nothing in DSDTSE

i see most new topics here go unanswered, and i can easily see why it would be annoying spending time answering something that has been asked a thousand times, and might have been solved long time ago, especially when it comes from people like me who just shows up and ask for help, with no postcount or otherwise entusiam for the community, to show for it.
Though i must plea for a little empathy, fore i have not the knowledge which you have collected on manipulating systems like this.
Id like to do this myself, to learn and be able to do it on my own future, but at this moment im stuck, and id like a push in the right direction..

Should i concern myself with making a patched DSDT file or am i off track here.. should i look elswhere?
one sentence will proably sufice
thanks in advance!

cheers

So i tried using fassl's DSDT patcher(1.0.1e) from the terminal on the install DVD (through a usb stick), and it solved the HPET problem, I no longer see the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement / HPET error!

i can now boot into my installation :D
only with cpus=1 though, it must be due to the ACPI problem..

OOB: network, firewire, AHCI, SATA/IDE, ram, usb
Needed Patching: cores (not resolved), gfx
(cant test audio and optical MB-port.. wont know about the audio until my studio monitors gets repaired.. but thats via firewire and driver so i expect to work right away)

System profiler says number of cores=1, total number of cores=1..
Though the computer thinks it has 1 core, the tempreture is remarkable low.. when bullying bios and trying to install i reached 43-45 degrees celsius, and when running OSX (DSDT patched) its reaching 33 at the most.

But id really like to get the cores up and running..
The ACPI problem:
Booting only with -v (no cpus=1) from hdd returns the error:
"Should have 2 Cores, but only found 1 for Die 1"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1228.12.14/osfmk/i386/cpu_threads.c:1110

i noticed the "i386", does it mean it runs 32 bit?

After the error, it panics and backtrace returns:
com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform
dependencies:
com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily
com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily

Is this some cross thing between ACPI and PCI? Or cpus listed wrong in the .. ehm .. DSDT? (my guees :)
anyone have a clue? ... or more likely, are you willing to spare a couple of minutes of your precious time? id love ya for it

cheers

So its solved (almost);

for those getting into same kind of trouble, ill list what i did:
  • followed Micky Mouse guide on bios setup.
  • used iATKOS v7 dvd with following customization: Main system, Chameleon 2, extra folder, Appledecrypter, voodoo HDA sounddiver/patch, post-install actions

    Due to HPET error:
  • removed AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext (and could update without it.. els put it in your extra/extensions)

    Due to ACPI error
  • patched dsdt with DSDTPatcher1.0.1e and put it in root and rename to DSDT.aml
  • edit DSDT file and removed unnecessary code (thanks to Pere for this! i couldn't)
    (installation now booted)
  • updated system to .8
  • downloaded osxtool and fixed gfx

now i only have acouple of small problems..
  • the system/menubar in OSX changes color to blue instead of grey if i open a program and stays this way until reboot/shutdown. Its not major but its annoying.
  • I cannot open desktop & screen saver in system preferences, it just hangs after clicking. also quite annoying.

Iv been trying to find similar problems but no luck with an answer.. I wonder if anyone knows whats wrong or had same problem? Id love to hear from you :)

cheers
